Our mama/grandma died of reasons associated with the Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder with symptoms of memory loss, impaired judgment, personality changes, and loss of language skills.
A person with the disease can forget to eat his/her food. They can get in a car and drive as far as the gas will take them, not knowing a destination. They can walk away from their homes in the middle of the day or night and hang out in the streets. They can lock doors inside their own home to keep out those who are available to help them. They can clutch their purses or wallets a lot because they don’t want anyone to steal their stuff. They can unplug freezers and cables to computers and tv sets. They can fuss and lie a lot. Their attitudes can go from very angry to giggly in three seconds. They can live in past states of their lives, like they are teenagers for instance. They can carry out their worst desires, things they would never do if they were in their right mind. They are not the ones exemplifying this behavior. It is the Alzheimer’s disease.
The Alzheimer’s disease can cause the patients to hide tv remote controls and their caregivers’ eyeglasses or keys from them, making it difficult for them to leave when it is necessary and possibly re-order vehicle keys and tv remote controls because they are never found. The Alzheimer’s patients can tell the caregivers how bad they are so often that it takes its toll on the caregivers. The Alzheimer’s patients can steal money from their caregivers because they believe the money to be theirs. They can lock doors in their caregivers’ homes to keep them out of their space, preventing entry and causing the caregivers to remove knobs from doors. The Alzheimer’s patients can wander through the house all night, causing sleep deprivation of the caregivers. Explaining to the patients that they must behave better does no good because they can forget it or deny the need. The caregivers can’t get angry and strike the patients because that is just all-around wrong. Because the Alzheimer’s patients are not in their right mind, the caregivers understand it is not they who is acting out, but the disease. The Alzheimer’s disease is an awful disease that can take down any person, any family. Donate HERE today for research and a cure.
Thank you so much.
We love and miss you, Mama/Grandma.
